Random and Memorable Tid-Bits from my #GHC12 Experience
- Got recognized from Fitocracy and made a new friend!
- Ran into the problem of waiting in line for the women’s bathroom at a tech conference. The men’s bathroom had to be re-comissioned because the wait was so long.
- Chatted with a developer from Palantir about what she does, in Spanish. We both agreed that we don’t get enough practice speaking our native tongues. I definitely feel like I’m getting rusty, but she noted that I’ve still got it when I let a “chido” slip out mid conversation. :P
- Met and hung out with several of my, soon to be, fellow ThoughtWorkers and got their insights on their experiences at TWU and what it’s like to work on projects. Can we fast forward to June, please?!
- Made connections with several company reps in hopes of collaborating on campus events with Women in Computer Science at my school.
- Ran into old friends from my previous internships at Cisco. We’ve all come a long way and it was great to re-connect to see what we’re up to in the industry.
- Got to talk to an experienced software developer that began as a programmer at the space center in Houston and now recruits for Youtube! She gave me great advice on prioritizing a work/life balance.
- Was asked by younger students to give my own advice in terms of looking for internships, deciding what to choose, pursuing grad school and other interests. Felt awesome to be able to provide a valuable opinion.
- Tried my first crab cake! Thanks, Amazon.

- A search for mediterranean food led to an unexpected belly dancer with dinner Friday night at Cazbar.
- So much #SWAG. New pair of pjama pants? Don’t mind if I do.
